There is not much knowledge about the historical background of the town belonging the anteque area.However,Plasgldrels are known to be the oldest inhabitants of the island.
Miltiades annext the island to Athens in 500 BC and the island stayed under the management of Athens until it was taken under the rulling of Roman Empire. In 1455 Gokceada was included to the Ottoman Empire and later it was occupied by the Greek and stayed under their rule during the years of 1922-1923. In 1923 according to the Lozan peace agreement the island was given to and became the rule of Republic of Turkey on 22nd of september of 1923.
Since the ancient time to this date the island was inhabited. Gokceada's surface area is 289.5 sg.km and the coastal length is 95 km. The island's north and south length is 13 km, and east-west length is 29.5 km. Gokceada (kuzulimanı) is 32 miles from Canakkale , 29 nautical miles from Bozcaada, 16 miles from Greek island of Limni and 14 miles from Semadirek. Gokceada with its very rough surface is made up from volcanic masses.The 77% of the island consist of mountains, the 12% rough surfaces and 10% of flat lands. The Meditarranean climate is typical;on its southern shores while the transitory Marmara climate is prevalent, on the northern seaboard of the island predominantly northerly and southerly winds prevale almost during the great part of the year. With and abundance of water resources Gokceada is in the fourth position in the world.
